Mintage is limited to 5,000, diameter 37 mm. It's been struck in the art workshop of the French Mint (Monnaie de Paris) at the heart of the city.
As it's one of the first coins struck with an original certificate of No. 0015/5000 (kept by PCGS after grading), it also bears the certificate number within the secured slab and the First Strike label.
This coin is the first one of a new series of the 12 Chinese calendar animals presented by Monnaie de Paris. In 2018 the French Mint celebrates a new signature for this series: combining Chinese patterns and symbols for a profoundly traditional rendering with astonishing details. It's a pure pleasure for numismatic fans.
It also set two new standards for the recent numismatic development at Monnaie de Paris: the first High Relief (P
iedfort) silver coin since the 50 Fr Hercule, at a purity of 999/1000 instead of 900/1000.
