This Silver coin is inspired by a Silver Japanese ‘Trade Dollar’ coin that was issued from 1875 to 1877.
Maximum mintage of 5,000 coins.
Contains 1 oz of .999 fine Silver
Obverse:
Design of a classic mythical coiled dragon clasping an orb. The dragon is surrounded by the inscriptions "THE EAST INDIA COMPANY" and "TRADE DOLLAR". The perimeter of the coin has a traditional Chinese scroll-pattern.
Reverse:
Depicts the right-facing
profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,
the year of issue and the face value. A Chinese scroll-pattern is also featured around the perimeter
The release of these Trade Dollars marked a significant change in Japan during which time the restoration of Imperial Authority was vested in Emperor Mutshuhito, who reigned from 1868 to 1914. His reign is known as the Meiji Era, which witnessed the introduction of rapid industrialization and manufacturing that transformed Japan into one of the world's largest and most advanced economies.
I purchased these 1 ounce proof coins directly from the East India Trading company, sent them into NGC for certification, and received them back from NGC.
