One of the longest running commemorative coin series in the world, Marine Life Protection winds up in 2017. With the first coins issued in 1992, the series has seen over 50 releases to date featuring tropical marine creatures and exotic mermaid designs that changed each year. The final two issues are dedicated to the Sea Horse & Dolphin. Each coin is struck from 2 oz silver 999 proof and has got the worldwide mintage limited to 500 pieces. Unlike previous years, no copper and gold coins will be minted.
Mermaids are typical of Palau designs - the obverse shows two mermaids on a rock along with the issuing country, year and face value inscriptions.
The final two piedfort issues will instead ship as a four ounce, two coin set in a beautiful custom suspension frame with a see-through certificate. The ultra high relief smartminting© technology was first applied to the series in 2016 and presents the dolphin and seahorse in the highest relief the series has seen in its 25-year history
